Band at MBMA

Our Instrumental Music Program is an excellent place to introduce band instruments to elementary students. In addition to learning in a full-band setting, students will have weekly small-group coaching sessions with a specialist on their instrument. This smaller instructor-to-student ratio will give students more attention and more instrument specific teaching.

Beginning Band

Monday & Thursday Rehearsals - 12:05-12:55PM
Grades 2-6
The Beginning Band is an introductory instrumental ensemble that takes the young music student through his/her first experiences on a new instrument.  This year-long band class gives students the opportunity to learn a core woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. Students may choose from: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone/Euphonium, or Percussion. Students will work towards 3 concerts throughout the year to give them goals to strive for and new music to learn.

Concert Band

Monday & Thursday Rehearsals - 3:30-4:20PM
Grades 2-6
The Concert Band is for students who have completed their first year of instrumental performance in Beginning Band, or in private lessons. Students may choose to play: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, (Alto or Tenor) Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, or Percussion. Students in this ensemble will work on skills such as tone production and quality, blend, balance, rhythm, and sight-reading as part of an ensemble. Students will work towards 3 concerts throughout the year to give them goals to strive for and new music to learn. Students may also work towards performing at a local CMEA Band Festival in the Spring.
